Martel James Boyer, 85, passed away on July 12, 2016 in Albuquerque, NM. He was born in Chicago, IL. When he was 2 years old his family moved to Rockford, IL. He attended all of the local schools and graduated from West Senior High School in 1948. He enlisted in the US Navy during the Korean War, and he served from 1951 - 1954 when he was honorably discharged. He joined his mother and brother where they lived in Washington, D.C. He worked as a cartographer at the Army Map Service until he enrolled at Capitol Radio Engineering Institute. He graduated with an AAS degree and was hired by Sandia National Labs to join the test group at Salton Sea, CA in 1959. In 1961 Sandia moved him and his family to Albuquerque, NM. He was an electronic technician and circuit designer. He retired in 1996. His hobbies included reading and woodcarving. He was preceded in death by Mary, his wife of 49 years; his mother, Mabel; his father, Charles Boyer Sr.; and his brother,Charles Jr. He is survived by his daughters, Mary Vincent (son-in-law, Ken), Michelle Avinger (son-in-law, Charles); and grandsons, Jonathan Vincent and Quentin Avinger; and great grandson, Kaden Vincent. He leaves behind many friends and family whom he cared for and loved very much. Rosary will be recited Friday, July 29, 2016, 7:00 p.m. at FRENCH - Lomas. Funeral Mass will be held Saturday, July 30, 2016, 9:00 a.m. at The Shrine of St. Bernadette Catholic Church, 11401 Indian School NE. Donations in lieu of flowers may be made to St. Jude's Children's Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Pl, Memphis, TN 38105.
