Marquez Andrew James Magaña, age 30, was a Godly knight to his daughter; smooth, charming husband; loyal, loving, older brother; special momma’s boy; a compassionate grandson; thoughtful great grandson; committed, loving uncle; inspirational cousin; passionate son-in-law; supportive brother-in-law; and a charismatic friend. Marquez was loving, honest, and knew what loyalty meant. He was a spontaneous young man that never liked to plan anything, he lived life to the fullest in the moment. He was fearless and believed that the bed you make; you better lie in. Marquez was blessed with many gifts and talents. He loved to cook and he was the definition of a foodie. He loved music and was an amazing drummer. He expressed his love and life in the ink of his art in both drawing and writing. He mastered the gifts of hospitality and servant hood. He is survived by his wife Leandra Magaña and daughter Genavieve Magaña. He is also survived by his mother, Dawnmarie Magaña; sister, Amaris Magaña; brothers, Elijah Magaña and Ryan Valdez; great-grandfather, Don Valdez; Grandparents, Marcia Valdez, James Thomas, Diana Sanchez, and Chendo Magaña. He also leaves behind many cherished aunts, Camile Biddle, Christina Magaña, Shanna Magaña, and Rachel Valdez; great aunts Evelyn Valdez, Donna Valdez, Pamela Valdez, Rosalind Vasquez, Shirley Valdez, Christina Valdez, and Emily Valdez; uncle, Sean Valdez; great uncles, Roland Valdez, Kenneth Valdez, Clarence Valdez, Virgil, Valdez, Jerry Garcia, and Phil Garcia; nephews, Silas Magaña and Coy Huges; niece, Jayla Griesemer; immediate cousins, Cedric Valdez, Brianna Valdez, Lila Valdez, Sophia Valdez, Desiree Flores, Chendo Contreras, Julina Contreras and a vast array of immediate family members. He is also survived by in-laws, Gary and Regina Benton, Frank and Gracie Acosta, Sherise Ortiz and Tyler Huges, Jodi Griesemer, and Haven Sturman. Marquez was preceded in death by his father, Gerald Magaña; great grandmother, Lila Valdez; great grandparents, Onesimo and Joan Garcia; great aunts, Gigi Schieber and Kathy Garcia; and great uncle, Ernie Garcia. Marquez was mentored by Pastor Charles Mitchell, Gary Robinson, David Nicoll, Pastor Al Rodriguez, Pastor Danny Sanchez, Pastor Andre Henderson, and Eddie Mata. Marquez was born on October 23, 1987 and was called to Heaven on May 8, 2018.
A visitation will be held on Monday, May 14, 2018, 6:00 to 8:00 p.m., at FRENCH – University. A memorial service will take place on Saturday, May 19, 2018, 11:00 a.m., at Victory Outreach Church, 435 Jefferson St SE.
