Marlene Wehlander, our beloved grandmother, wife, mother, sister, aunt, and friend passed away on November 26, 2021, at her home in Albuquerque, New Mexico. She was born on September 7, 1932, on a farm near DeLamere, North Dakota. As she grew up, she created many precious memories with her five younger sisters and one brother.
Marlene married Oscar Wehlander in Reno, Nevada on July 15, 1955. They had two daughters: Kim and Keri. Sadly, Marlene was preceded in death by her daughter Kim in 1991.
Marlene established and managed the gift shop at the base of the Sandia Peak Tram for many years and was a gracious and hospitable presence to all those who passed through.
Marlene loved being outdoors, snuggling with dogs, finding good shopping bargains, listening to music, admiring beautiful flowers, and traveling to new places. She was a kind person with a generous heart.
Our deepest thanks go to Amy Hayward from Hospice of New Mexico for her skilled and compassionate care for Marlene, to Janet Paoletti, Stacey Abruzzo, and our wonderful neighbors for offering Marlene and Oscar such kindness in this difficult time. Marlene will be greatly missed by the many people whose lives she touched.
Funeral service will be held on Friday, December 3, 2021, at 11:00 a.m. at FRENCH-Wyoming - Due to COVID masks are required. To view the service online, please click
