In the dark of night while no one was looking, Marlene Goodrich got up out of bed, quietly picked up her square-dancing shoes from the closet and snuck out to join her husband, Jay Goodrich for their first dance together in 29 years on the other side in eternity. The glorious reunion between Jay and Marlene took place among the heavenly host on Wednesday, July 7, 2021.
It is with mixed emotion that we announce the passing of Marlene M. Goodrich of Albuquerque, NM. She fought a long and arduous battle with Alzheimer's Disease and her weak and failing body has finally released its grip and has let her go home. While we mourn her loss here, we also celebrate her passing into the loving arms of her Lord and Savior Jesus of Nazareth and also into the waiting arms of her husband Jay, who has been working all these years building the dance floor for their first dance together since they were separated by his passing in 1992.
Marlene was a 35+ year member of First United Methodist Church in Albuquerque where she had many lifelong friends and served with the meal program for the homeless for several years. She was a long-time member of the Tri-S Bowling team at Valley Bowl in Albuquerque, having bowled several 200+ games in her bowling career. She also enjoyed dancing with Cloggin' Express in Albuquerque. Before that, Jay and Marlene together were avid bowlers, attended and served First United Methodist Church, danced in local square-dance societies in Albuquerque, and loved going camping with their children.
Marlene is survived by her three magnificent children and six beautiful grandchildren: Dennis Goodrich and his wife, Darlene, with their children, Lauren, and Brandt: Karen Thurmond and her husband, Ben, with their children, Brenden and Kyleigh: and Noelle Goodrich, with her children, Nic and Hannah. Marlene is also survived by her brother, Al Chavez, and his wife, Trinnie, with their children and grandchildren.
We would like to thank the nurses and staff at Legacy Hospice of Albuquerque, Morningstar of Rio Rancho, and Palmilla Senior Living of Albuquerque for all of their help with Marlene's care as her progressing Alzheimer's Disease began to rob her of her precious memories and then her physical abilities.
Interment is planned at the Santa Fe National Cemetery where Marlene's place has been waiting by her husband's side. We ask that you all join us for a Memorial Celebration on Friday, July 30, 2021, at 11:00 a.m., FRENCH - Westside.
Together we will remember her life well lived and we will celebrate the reunion dance between Jay and Marlene Goodrich.
She loved Lavender and so the color purple would be quite appropriate. If you choose to remember Marlene, may we suggest you make a contribution to the Alzheimer's research foundation of your choice.
Celebrate life with your families and friends and have a good day.
