Mark Robert McConville

April 7, 1951 — April 22, 2020

Mark Robert McConville was born April 7, 1951 to his parents Bob and Marilynn McConville in Bakersfield, CA. He is survived by his wife, Michele McConville; daughter, Melissa Munoz; son-in-law, Marco Munoz; grandchildren, Mark, Robert, and Marilynn Munoz; and sisters, Marie Kernan and Colleen Gardner.

Mark McConville was the best of men. He gave selflessly of himself and never asked for anything in return—simply to “pay it forward” if you were given the opportunity. He worked for Second Chance, in Newark California for over 30 years and supported many people in their recovery of substance abuse. He was a simple man who didn’t have need for material things but made up for it with the grandkids—especially at Christmas time—his favorite time. He was a traditionalist when it came to Christmas—-playing Christmas music sometimes as early as October 1st. He never had an artificial Christmas tree and would on occasion, make a plum pudding. He once “roasted chestnuts on an open fire” but was sorely disappointed with the end result. He still made the McConville family fruit cake, we’re fairly certain was the last family member to do so (although the grandkids have vowed to carry the tradition on.) He lived a wonderful life, surrounded by people who loved and respected him. We will honor him as best we can by living our lives to their fullest, giving to others whenever we are able without expectation, and making sure that we visit him regularly, bringing him fruitcake at Christmas. We love you, we will miss you, and we will think of you often. Un dia a la vez.
