Mark J. Farrell, 84, died suddenly on Sunday, November 21, 2021. He was born in Minneapolis, Minnesota and was the only child of Joseph and Evangeline (Cote’) Farrell. Mark attended the University of Minnesota, where he earned a master’s degree in Philosophy and Theology. He was an avid fan of the Minnesota Vikings and the Minnesota Twins.
Mark is survived by his wife Sydney, sons Jeff and Sean and wife Denise, four grandchildren, Jeffery and wife, Michelle, Laura and husband, Jeff, Adam, and Paul and wife, Andrea. He also has eight great-grandchildren.
Mark was employed in the Human Resources Department at PNM and later retired from the Gas Company of NM. He was instrumental in the operation of the Employee Assistance Programs at both PNM and the Gas Company of NM.
Even though he was a transplant from Minnesota, Mark loved New Mexico, with the change of seasons and the mountains. Throughout his life, he enjoyed downhill and cross-country skiing, camping and golfing. He played on an Albuquerque amateur ice hockey league, as well as coaching young boy’s ice hockey teams.
Over his lifetime, Mark valued learning and reading. He taught continuing education classes at the University of New Mexico. In addition, he was an avid reader of books such as Shakespeare, Greek classics, and other great philosophers. In his spare time, Mark listened to and loved classical music.
Mass will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, December 10, 2021, at Saint John XXIII Catholic Church, 4831 Tramway Ridge Dr. NE, Albuquerque, NM 87111 with reception to follow in the main foyer. Private ennichement will follow. Masks are required to attend service.
