Marjorie Smith

MARJORIE WREN SMITH (NEE COOK)Age 76, of Albuquerque, passed away on Tuesday, May 28, 2013, after a short battle with lung cancer. Marjorie was the eldest of three siblings born to Verne and Mary Ellen Cook in Amarillo, TX. After graduating from Amarillo High School in 1955, she attended Amarillo College, graduating in 1957 with an Associates Degree in Science. Marjorie was the only female pre-engineering student in her class. While continuing her education at the University of New Mexico, Marjorie met and married the love of her life, Roger. They were married for 54 years and raised three children. Marjorie worked closely with Roger in their home building and development businesses. Marjorie enjoyed golf, traveling and attending sporting events with Roger. She was very artistic, and excelled at painting, as well as architectural and interior design. Her faith was strong and an inspiration to her family, her many bible study friends and Hoffmantown Church family. On January 11, 2013, Marjorie lost her loving husband, Roger H. Smith Sr. She is survived by her sister, Karen Heavin and husband, Bill of Amarillo, TX; brother, Tom Cook and wife, Annie of Albuquerque, NM; daughter, Leslie L. Lucas and husband, Reggie of Montclair, NJ, son, Roger H. Smith Jr. and wife, Cherri of Albuquerque, NM, daughter, Rachel L. Simpson and husband, Brett of Vancouver, BC, Canada; and three grandchildren, Devon Harte and husband, Brett of Jupiter, FL, Aaron Simpson of North Canton, OH, and Julian Lucas, currently attending Harvard. She will also be missed by her nieces, Misty Myrick, Stephanie Thompson and nephew, Philip Cook, and many other family and friends that loved her. The family would like to say a special thanks to Ida and Ann, who lovingly helped care for Marjorie during the last stages of her illness. Visitation will be held Thursday, June 6, 2013 from 5:00-7:00 p.m. at FRENCH - Wyoming. Services will be held Friday, June 7, 2013, 11:00 a.m., at Hoffmantown Church, 8888 Harper Dr. NE.
