Marjorie Whitley Neil, 97, beloved mother, grandmother and great-grandmother was called to her eternal resting place on Sunday, January 22, 2023.
Marjorie was born on November 26, 1925, in Ness City, KS to Charles and Ethel Whitley. Marjorie was raised on the family farm and has many wonderful memories and stories to tell including riding her horse to and from the schoolhouse (especially in the winter months). Marjorie loved to share her life growing up on the farm in her days compared to today’s technology with her nephews who still run the family farm.
Marjorie moved from Ness City, KS to Hutchinson, KS after high school. She attended business school while also working in the administrative field. Marjorie met Bill on a blind date, and they were married on August 29, 1948.
Marjorie and Bill moved to New Mexico in 1949. She worked for the National Laboratories in the administrative offices in her early years. After her children graduated from high school, she went to work for the Albuquerque Police Department.
Marjorie and Bill enjoyed spending time at their cabin in Pecos, NM; traveling in their RV; and traveling to many places in the US and abroad. It was always a special time when 3 couples called the “group” got together for dinners, New Year’s Eve, and travels. In the early years when the “group” were enjoying their adult time, the children attended and would enjoy slumber parties, singing to albums, etc. Great memories were made, and the children are still in touch reminiscing about the good ole days.
Marjorie was an avid reader, enjoyed working crossword puzzles, and spending many hours working in her yard. She was a member of Epsilon Sigma Alpha, Beta Theta chapter. Marjorie was a member of St. John’s United Methodist Church. Family and friends were able to enjoy her many life stories and continue to share them with her passing.
Marjorie is survived by her children, Alisa (Jerry) and Roger (Soraya); four grandchildren, Christopher, Stephanie (Enrique), Kassidy, and Dylan; and three great-grandchildren, Brooke, Nathan, and one due in March. She was preceded by her husband, Bill; son, Randy; brother; sister; and parents.
