Marilyn Sue West

December 23, 1940 — April 18, 2025

Marilyn Sue West, age 84, passed away on April 18, 2025. It's hard to capture the essence of Sue's life in words, as her impact was profound and her presence will be deeply missed. We were blessed to have her in our lives, and it's clear that she always gave her best and cherished her family and friends with all her heart.

Sue was married to Melvin West for 58 years before his passing in 2018. Together, they raised two sons, Mel and Doug, and were blessed with seven grandchildren. She was the oldest of five siblings, including three brothers-Butch, Bill, and Jim-and one sister, Lee. Born in Raymond, Texas, in 1940, Sue devoted 30 years of her life to education, retiring as a principal with Albuquerque Public Schools. Her passion for teaching and for helping children was evident in everything she did. Sue held a master's degree in education, a grant in Special Education from Eastern New Mexico University, and a fellowship in administration from the University of New Mexico.

Sue's life could be described as one of deep faith, love, and service. She had an unwavering love for the Lord and made it a priority to share her faith with others. As a wife and mother, Sue was dedicated, compassionate, and always ready to lend a hand. She had a generous spirit, often helping others quietly and without recognition. Her sense of humor and playful nature were also a big part of who she was-she loved a good practical joke and shared many joyful moments with her family and friends.

Alongside Melvin, Sue was actively involved in a Christian drug rehabilitation program and committed to her church community. She participated in women's Bible studies and volunteered in countless ways, too numerous to list. One of her favorite ways to show love was through cooking. Sue was an exceptional cook, often adding green chili to nearly everything she made. She especially enjoyed preparing a weekly breakfast for Melvin's men's Bible study, a small but meaningful way she expressed her care and love for others.

These are just a few of the many reasons we will always remember and love Sue. Her legacy of love, kindness, faith, and service will continue to inspire us.
