Marilyn Catherine Mauldin

d. April 21, 2016

Marilyn Catherine Mauldin, 64, died peacefully on April 21, 2016 in Albuquerque, NM. She will be remembered as a generous, humorous mother and friend, as a diehard football fan and as a stock-trader. She was a licensed practical nurse who continually thought of others before herself, who had a special place in her heart for dogs and who was never quick to judge.
Marilyn was born in New York City, New York (Manhattan) in 1951 to Dale W. and Catherine "Kitty" Jones. Dale earned his doctorate and was a mechanical engineering professor and inventor. Kitty was a registered nurse. With the importance of education instilled in her by her father and the nurturing qualities passed down to her from her mother, Marilyn was able to create and live a colorful and successful life.
Education was paramount to Marilyn. After graduating from Sandia High School in 1969 and receiving her bachelor's degree in education from the University of New Mexico in 1973, Marilyn soon found that her passion was helping others. She entered a nursing program and quickly earned her LPN license. She was a proud alumna of the Alpha Chi Omega sorority.
Her nursing qualities became especially important when her parents reached their elder years. When Kitty fell ill to lung cancer, Marilyn stepped in and cared for her. When Dale could no longer live on his own, Marilyn moved him into her home and took care of him. She never complained and never asked for anything in return. She said she was lucky to have Dale in her home during his final years.
Marilyn had a wicked sense of humor. She nicknamed everyone she met, which kept everyone laughing. She thoroughly enjoyed making others laugh. But more than anything in this world, she loved being a wife and a mother. She made many special memories with her children and her former husband, Jeffrey Mauldin. She had a special bond with Jeffrey, whom she was married to for more than 30 years. She was proud of him and his business success and always said she was glad to have been a part of that. She would say that despite their ups and downs, she very much appreciated how generous he was to her.
Marilyn is preceded in death by her beloved mother, Catherine "Kitty" Jones and her father, Dale. She leaves behind two sisters, Patricia and Barbara; four children, Melissa, Kimberly, Eric and Ashley; and her four grandchildren, Weston, Andrew, Gavin and Brooklyn.
