Marilyn Cheromiah, 69, beloved mother and grandmother, was called home by her creator to her eternal resting place on Saturday, March 13, 2021. She entered this world on Monday, March 26, 1951 to Steven and Isabel Riley. She is survived by her daughter, Janis DeLaney, (husband Anthony, children Devin and Ethan) and a very large extended family of sisters, brothers, aunts, uncles and cousins.
Marilyn was a lifelong educator, athletic director, administrator, and coach. She loved education and spent her life teaching and helping her students reach their full potential. She always had words of encouragement to share, whether you were a current student or a student from decades past. Her wardrobe was full of Laguna-Acoma High School blue and gold/blue and silver (Once A Hawk, Always A Hawk). She could tell you without hesitating what cross country/basketball game/track meet her t-shirt represented. Her years at Grants High School and Jemez Day School also left her with many fond memories and good friends.
She was passionate about running and competed in multiple marathons throughout her life. In recent years she particularly loved running the Walt Disney World Marathons, including the Dopey Challenge which had her running a 5k, 10k, half marathon, and full marathon on consecutive days. Cross country and track seasons were always a highlight of every year, and she ensured her athletes had everything they needed to succeed.
She was the big sister of her family and loved cooking for them and making them laugh. She always pushed her family members to be the best version of themselves with endless encouragement.
Additionally, she loved spending time with her family doing puzzles, watching movies, vacationing, or cheering for her daughter and son-in-law's alma mater, the Florida Gators. Her grandchildren were her pride and joy. She was their number one fan at all their sports and school activities, and the three of them loved their travel adventures. She also loved animals and always had an extended fury/feathery family that she gave her all to. She was an inspiration to all and will be missed by so many.
