Marie Metoyer

October 14, 1929 — December 15, 2012

On Saturday, December 15, 2012, the strongest woman we know finally rested. Our incredible mother, Marie C. Metoyer, 83, of Albuquerque, NM passed away in Farmington, New Mexico. Marie was born to Anthony and Della (Metoyer) Chevalier on October 14, 1929 in Nachitoches, Louisiana, the youngest of seven children. Our beautiful mother, ever the prim and proper lady, was extremely beautiful to her last days and after almost 60 years of marriage, still took our father's breath away. She has joined our father, Tony Sr. and our brother, Marty, who welcomed her with open arms. Marie was the ever devoted wife to Tony Sr., with whom she bore eight children. She always made each of us feel as if we were her favorite. Our mother was a proud stay at home mom and an amazing cook of varied cuisine from Creole to New Mexican. Her gumbo, dirty rice and meat pies will never be rivaled. Cooking was her greatest joy, along with loving and caring for her family and home. Marie is survived by her children, Greg Metoyer and wife Fran, Marsha Metoyer, Emily Stock and husband Stewart, Tony Metoyer, Jr. and wife Stephanie, Paula Metoyer, Kevin Metoyer and wife Diane, Lynne Martin and husband, Brian; 23 grandchildren; more than 24 great-grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins; and countless friends and kind neighbors. Marie's family extends a heartfelt thank you to the caregivers, friends and medical personnel of Farmington for the exceptional care they provided our mother over the last several months. Rosary will be recited for Marie on Wednesday, December 19, 2012, 7:00 p.m. at FRENCH-University. The Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday, December 20, 2012, 1:00 p.m. at St. Therese of the Little Flower Catholic Church, 300 Mildred Ave. NW, Albuquerque, NM. Burial will take place on Friday, December 21, 2012,10:30 a.m. at Santa Fe National Cemetery.
