Maria "Priscilla" (Greenier) Rubio

April 26, 1928 — June 5, 2018

Maria “Priscilla” (Greenier) Rubio passed on peacefully at home on Tuesday, June 5, 2018, surrounded by her loved ones. Born in Las Vegas, New Mexico, Priscilla moved to Albuquerque in the 50s where she raised her family and ran a business with her late husband, Edward Rubio, Sr.

Priscilla, 90, lived a full life as a loving mother, wife, and grandmother.   Full of love and affection, she was called “Mom” by many.  Her door was always open to anyone for a hug, a plate of warm food or just good conversation.

Priscilla AKA “Pris” was a woman ahead of her time. Not only did Priscilla play in weekly bowling leagues and tournaments for multiple decades (scoring a 300 several times), but she also was one of the first women to head the Albuquerque Little League. In the 70s and 80s she coached softball and baseball all while raising 13 children and helping her late husband run their Albuquerque bar and restaurant, The Yucca Lounge.   She was also an avid sports fan, especially of baseball and golf.  Her favorites were the L.A. Dodgers, and Tiger Woods. She never missed a game or a match if she could help it.

Adored by her large circle of family, friends and acquaintances, Priscilla was a role model to many as how to live.  She was a woman of great strength, endurance and integrity.  She faced many obstacles as a child and a young mother, but she persevered with positivity and purpose. She instilled her family to carry-on her legacy of being a source of community, acceptance, faith and love to all people.

Priscilla made everyone love her, but she also made everyone laugh! She was full of hilarious even sarcastic jokes.  She appeared on TMZ joking with the paparazzi of having taught her celebrity grandson to gamble, smoke and drink. In her later years, while battling dementia, she regressed to almost a child-like state, but the jokes kept coming.  Any room Priscilla occupied was filled with tears of laughter.

All jokes aside, Priscilla is best described as everyone’s god-mother.  She made sure that anyone and everyone that she loved or encountered were made to feel special, accepted completely and loved.  Her pride and joy were her many children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Favorite hobbies of Priscilla’s included bingo, jigsaw and crossword puzzles, reading novels and spending time with her family.

Priscilla “Gramma,” revered by her kids and grandkids, was often taken to her favorite sporting events. It was a dream come true for Priscilla to attend the Super Bowl XLII and the U.S. Open at Torrey Pines in 2008 where she met Tiger Woods.

Her passing is preceeded by her husband, Edward Louis Rubio, her mother and father (Lucaria Ortiz & Robert Emmett Greenier), Brother (Manuel Greenier), Sisters (Corinna Candelaria & Ruby Tapia) and by her grandsons Jonathan Burton De Volk and John Michael Graham.

Priscilla was surrounded by hundreds of extended family members including but not limited to:

Children: Rosemary, Freddie, Karesse Sterling (Robert), Barry, Patricia, Elaine Graham (John), Edward (Roseanne), Robert (Pinky), Gina, Loretta Steele (Charlie), Nancy Serna (B.J), David, Pauline Ryan (Robert)
