Mariano Barela, 89, passed away peacefully at his home on Saturday, August 26, 2017, while surrounded by his loving family. He was born March 13, 1928 in Los Ranchos, NM. He was preceded in death by his wife of 60 years, Felicita “Phyllis” Barela, and his parents, Manuel Barela and Placida Martinez. Mariano is survived by his son, Manny O. Barela; his daughters and sons-in-law, Bernadette (Joseph) Gonzales, Geraldine (Modesto) Barela-Martinez, Debbie Pena (Martin) and Marianne P. (Curtis) Valdez; 11 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren and many loving relatives and friends. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Wednesday, September 6, 2017 at 9:30 a.m. at FRENCH - Westside. Interment will follow at 12:45 p.m. at Santa Fe National Cemetery. A reception will be held at 4:00 p.m. at American Legion Post 69, 9000 4th St. NW. Pallbearers will be Joshua Barela, Stephen Trujillo, Juan Jr. Venegas, Andrew Pena and Brandon and Jordan Valdez. Honorary Pallbearers will be Ezekiel and Sysco Maldonado and Juan and Jacob Venegas.
