Marianita Alonzo of Jacksonville, Florida and Albuquerque, New Mexico was called to her eternal resting place on March 23, 2021. She was born on August 20, 1938 in Cebu, Philippines to parents Pedro Jayme and Purificacion Empleo.
Marianita graduated from College of Santa Fe New Mexico with a bachelor’s in business accounting and worked in the accounting field, as well as owned an income tax business for many years. She was a devout Catholic and found joy in all church events, especially prayer groups.
Her hobbies included playing chess, gardening, growing her own vegetables, cooking, fishing, and traveling.
Marianita is survived by her daughter, Sandra Castanares (Tino); son, George Castanares (Araceli); daughter, Evelyn Castanares-Todd (Alex); daughter, Rebecca Alonzo-Gomez (Frank); sons, Ricardo Alonzo (Irene); Serbi Alonzo; Romeo Alonzo; many grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and an extensive family of beloved nephews and nieces. She was preceded in death by her parents, Pedro and Purificacion; son, Peter Castanares; brother, Maximo Jayme; and sister-in-law, Remedios Jayme.
Rosary will be recited Monday, April 5, 2021, 7:00 p.m. at The Shrine of St. Bernadette Catholic Church, 11401 Indian School Road NE. Mass will be celebrated Tuesday, April 6, 2021, 10:00 a.m. at The Shrine of St. Bernadette Catholic Church. Interment will follow at Gate of Heaven Cemetery.
