Margaret (Peggy) C. Nonemaker, 93, who was born and resided in Albuquerque since 1922, passed away Monday, March 21, 2016. Peggy was a successful businesswoman. She was owner and operator of La Pinata in Old Town from 1965 until her retirement in 1981. She graduated from Santa Fe High School in 1939 and attended Western School for Private Secretaries in Albuquerque. In the early 1940s, Peggy was employed with the Department of Public Welfare for 15 years.
In 1969, Peggy married James Nonemaker, who helped her carry on the business of La Pinata. She is survived by his children, Susan Bullock of North Carolina, Kathryn McArthur of California and Bruce Nonemaker of Albuquerque; grandchildren J. David and Jennifer Bullock, Lisa and Peter McArthur and Anna Prophet. She is also survived by five great-grandchildren. Peggy is preceded in death by her husband, James, and her parents, Robert and Lillian (Seaks) Evans.
A Memorial Service will be held Saturday, April 9, 2016 at 10:00 a.m. the Chester T. French Memorial Mausoleum Chapel at Sunset Memorial Park, 924 Menaul Blvd. NE in Albuquerque. Reverend David McArthur will officiate. Interment will follow at Sunset Memorial Park. Memorial contributions may be made to Animal Humane New Mexico, 615 Virginia St., Albuquerque, NM 87108.
