Marcia Alban Holmberg, 69, beloved Wife, Mom, Grandma "Maca" and Friend, was called to her Heavenly Father on Wednesday March 3, 2021.
She entered this world on June 28, 1951 in Guayaquil, Ecuador, born to Angel and Ines Alban. She was the youngest of seven siblings and lovingly referred to as Bachita, a nickname that suited her endearing personality.
She moved to New York at the age of 13 (1964), graduated high school at William C. Bryant in 1970 and joined the US Air Force in 1971. She attended operating room technician school in Texas. She was stationed at Kirtland Air Force Base, NM and worked as an operating room technician at the USAF Hospital. She met her husband, John, while working at the hospital. They married in 1982 in Las Vegas, NV. She became a registered nurse in 1976, graduating with a Bachelor's degree from the University of New Mexico. She worked 45 years as a nurse, 37 years at Presbyterian Hospital and 8 years at University of New Mexico Hospital, caring for all those she came into contact with.
She taught Spanish and was a teaching assistant at Our Lady of the Assumption Catholic School and formed many bonds and friendships with her colleagues and her students. She became a member of Our Lady of Assumption Parish in 1982. Her Catholic faith was very important to her and she honored it with the respect and love she showed for all those around her. She proudly became a United States citizen in 1999. Her greatest joys were spending time with friends, her family, becoming a mother, becoming a grandmother, dancing, laughing, and playing card games.
True to Marcia's vivacious personality her family lived a great life surrounded by friends, family and good times. Everyone that met her loved her because she had the kindest, warmest, and most generous heart. She found the good in all of us, brightening our days, turning her friends into family, and loving everyone as they were.
She is survived by her spouse, John Holmberg; son and his wife, Jon and Beth Holmberg; their children, Abigail and Maddie; daughter and her husband, Angela and Cody Minium, their children Finn and Zeke; her siblings, Martha Jaramillo, Jenny Baquero, Sonia Alban, Angela Andrade, Cecilia Kane, Teodoro Alban and their families.
Due to current COVID restrictions, a celebration of life is scheduled for Saturday June 26th, 2021 (time and location to follow) when travel and gathering will be safer.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Lupus Research Alliance.
