Malcom F. Gonzales

September 18, 1953 — July 17, 2013

Age 59, unexpectedly passed away in the early morning of July 17th, 2013 at his family's home. He is survived by his father, Francisco Gonzales; sister Elizabeth Gonzales Pimentel and husband Robert A. Pimentel; brother, Maurice F. Gonzales; sister, Elaine C. Gonzales; sister, Emily C. Lucero and husband, John Lucero; son, Lawrence Gonzales; fiancée, Elsa J. Glassman, and many other family members and friends. Mr. Gonzales was preceded in death by his mother, Carmen Gonzales. He was a caring son, devoted brother, exceptional father, doting grandfather, loving fiancé, considerate nephew, and warm-hearted friend. His closeness to his family was obvious, and he readily shared the great love he felt for his family with others. Malcom was also an avid fisherman, balloonist, and photographer. You were very lucky to be given one of his framed photographs or to have him join your crew. He will always be remembered for his strength and humility, trademark smile, pony tail and beard, baseball cap, and big belly laugh. He loved a good cigar and a large ice-tea after doing yardwork, going out to breakfast (as long as you let him pick up the check), visiting with family and friends, finding a great bargain or a perfect gift, listening to soft music, and watching the History and Discovery Channels. Through his love for Elsa, he also learned to enjoy baseball games, arts and crafts shows, jazz concerts, movies, and exploring the coast of New England (especially lighthouses). Most of all, he will be remembered for his kindness and generosity. He spent almost every waking hour taking care of others. Whatever action was needed, he quietly took charge. Anything that needed doing, he would volunteer to do for you. Although he earned his living as a security professional at Honeywell FM&T for 26 years, his passion was being a good-deed-doer. He didn't have many worldly goods, but everything he had, he shared. Malcom was a lifelong volunteer, and should friends desire, contributions in his memory may be made to any of the organizations to which he donated his time: American Cancer Society, Big Brothers Big Sisters, United Blood Services, Balloon Fiesta's Discovery Center and the AAAA Pilot Tent, Locks of Love, Santa Fe Indian Market, New Mexico Museum of Natural History and Science, "Operation Holiday Cheer" at Kirtland AFB Fire Station, and too many other charities and children's toy and school supply drives to individually list. Malcom truly enhanced the lives of all who knew him, and he will be deeply missed. Rosary will be recited on Wednesday, July 24, 2013 at 6pm at FRENCH-Lomas. Mass will be celebrated on Thursday, July 25, 2013 at 9am at St. Bernadette Catholic Church, 11401 Indian School Rd NE, Albuquerque, NM. There will be celebrations of his life immediately after both the rosary and the mass. Friends may visit the online guest book for Malcom at or send condolences to the family at 712 Cardenas Drive, NE, Albuquerque, NM, 87108.
