Bender, Majanah Majanah Leonora (Hagan) Bender, 89, of El Paso, Texas passed from this life on March 26, 2015 at home with her daughter in Albuquerque, NM. Majanah was born in Roanoke, Virginia. She was the fifth born of seven children to the late Harry James Hagan, Sr. and India Cole (Welborn) Hagan. She is preceded in death by her husband of 65 years, Theodore "Ted" Robert Bender in 2013, and her son, Edward Louis "Louie" Bender in 1988. She is also preceded in death by her sisters, Orpha Virginia Hagan of Gainsville, FL, Mina Lou Hagan, Elizabeth Hagan and her brother, Harry James Hagan, Jr. of Roanoke, VA. She is survived by her beloved daughter, Marjorie Lenore Bender, and her wonderful grandson, Andre Louis Bender. She is also survived by her siblings, Lelia Ione (Hagan) Hauss, of Salisbury, NC and Philip E. Hagan, Sr., GySgt. USMC (retired) of Patrick Springs, VA; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. She was proud of her ancestors, who served in the American Revolutionary and Civil Wars. Following in their footsteps, she served her country as a US Cadet Corps Nurse in WWII, receiving her education at Cornell University New York Hospital. She and her husband, Ted, moved to El Paso in 1949. She supervised nurses at Southwest General Hospital until 1952, when she helped open the doors of Providence Memorial Hospital. After a five-year break from nursing, she returned to nurse with the El Paso Independent School District in 1961. She retired from school nursing 25 years later. She was an avid backyard bird-watcher. She completed crossword puzzles in ink and was a world traveler. A Celebration of Life and Reception will be held Thursday, April 9, 2015 at X:XX at Harding - Orr & McDaniel Funeral Home, 320 Montana Avenue, El Paso, TX 79902. A Funeral Service will be held Friday, April 10, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. at the Second Baptist Church, 401 S. Virginia Street, El Paso, TX 79901. Her family expresses their gratitude to the doctors, nurses and patient aides at the Hospice de la Luz who cared for Majanah in her final days.
