In the wee hours of Sunday morning, September 10, 2017 Macedonia Romana Romero (Massey) joined her Savior and King on the streets of gold in Heaven. Massey was born on November 25, 1926 in Encino, NM then married the love of her life, Julian, in 1943. Massey and Julian shared a love story many times told around their table. Julian preceded her in death in 2012.
Their loving journey through life bore five children, the late Honorable Judge Ernesto J. Romero, Jo Ann Romero, Sharon Lautenschleger, Phyllis Zamorski and Marlene Romero. Massey loved her son-in-laws, David Goodnow, Steven Lautenschleger and Mike Zamorski and they loved her back. Her grandchildren, Rita Finley Chalamidas, Julianna Lautenschleger, Luke Waruszewski and Josh and Sean Romero were her pride and joy. Two of her grandchildren, Karen Finley and Megan Romero preceded Massey in death. Her four great-grandchildren, Sofia and Tommy Chalamidas and Mia and Carter Romero were absolute treasures to Massey. Massey had a special love for her grandchildren and they all knew their grandma was someone special. Massey taught us how to rejoice in God’s blessings and accept His will in sorrow.
Massey spent her life serving and loving others. Her home was a sunny, warm, welcoming full-of-life place where we all gathered to spend holidays, celebrate birthdays, share our joys and sorrows, toast good news, exclaim political views and gather around her table to share the best red chile and beans in the entire Southwest.
Massey and Julian loved to dance and were a perfectly matched pair. They also enjoyed travel and they took many cruises and numerous camping trips around Northern New Mexico in their RV. Massey enjoyed life!
Massey and Julian were active in Our Lady of Assumption church. They spent many years conducting marriage enrichment weekends, singing in the choir and serving as Eucharistic ministers and lectors. Their influence and living example of a strong, loving and supportive marriage was well known. Massey was a prayer warrior and people came from near and far to ask for those powerful prayers. She had a special and direct line to Jesus who used Massey for more than a few miracles and incredible graces.
We thank the caretakers, Laura, Anna, Lilianna, Olga and Mireya who took such loving care of Massey in her final, difficult months. We appreciate the wonderful, caring hospice staff who stood by our side throughout Massey’s illness.
A Rosary will be recited on Wednesday, September 13, 2017, 7:00 p.m. at FRENCH – Lomas. A Celebration of Massey’s Life and her reunion in heaven with her Julian and those who loved her so dearly will be on Thursday, September 14, 2017 , 10:00 a.m. at Our Lady of Assumption Church, Lomas and Tennessee. Interment will follow the services at Gate of Heaven Cemetery.
