Padilla, Mabel T.
Mabel T. Padilla, 81, dedicated mother and true love of 61 years passed away November 17, 2015. Mabel was a gracious and faithful giver, who was always dressed to impress and never went without her flaming red lipstick. She enjoyed her time at the casinos and with her dear friends who gathered at least twice a year in Laughlin, NV. She loved to travel, and was a avid NFL football fan who always cheered on her Denver Broncos. Mabel touched many people in her life. She was born and raised in Albuquerque, NM. She was a graduate of Albuquerque High School and retired from APS after 39 years. Thirty-eight of those years were at Van Buren Middle school. It was not a surprise that the students never forgot the impact she had on their lives as she was quite often approached with random greetings, hugs, and words of thanks from former students. She was actively involved as a parishioner at the Shrine of St. Bernadette for over 50 years where she coordinated many social gatherings and was a member of the Alter Rosary Society. Mabel was also a member of the Advisory Council for the City of Albuquerque Department of Senior Affairs where she represented the Albuquerque Bear Canyon location. She was preceded in death by her siblings, Regina Romero, Lawrence Callahan and Fred Callahan. She is survived by her husband, Mike C. Padilla; her son, Michael and his wife, Yvette; her son, Mark and his wife, Jamie; as well as her grandchildren, Byron and Camille Padilla. She is also survived by her sister, Lillian Roybal, and her brother, Richard Callahan. Also touching Mabel's life were Felicia McIlhaney; her sister-in-law, Rubie Barela; her nephew and niece, Jason and Brooke Barela; along with many other nieces and nephews. A Rosary and Mass will be Tuesday, December 1, 2015 beginning at 8:30 a.m. at The Shrine of St. Bernadette Catholic Church, 11401 Indian School Rd. NE, Albuquerque, NM 87112.
