Lydia Fernandez

Lydia Fernandez, 83, went home to Heaven after a lengthy battle with Parkinson's disease on Thursday, March 3, 2016. She was born on February 4, 1933, in Ojo Sarco, NM to Jose Onesimo Pacheco Sr. and Evangelina Armijo Pacheco. She was a devout Catholic her whole life. She was a member of the St. Teresa Catholic Church Parish in Grants, New Mexico and also worked at the State Capital in Santa Fe.
On October 11, 1958, she married Porfirio "Porfy" Fernandez. The strength of their love was immeasurable. Porfy left us on August 22, 2015, just six months ahead of Lydia. Our only consolation is that they are reunited in love again today.
She is survived by her children, Debbie Fernandez of Albuquerque, NM, Rita and husband Chris Montano of Grants, NM, Lionel of Albuquerque, NM and Lisa Lopez and Matthew Myers of Albuquerque, NM; her grandchildren, Danielle Montano of Grants, NM, Diandra and husband Jeremy Salcido of Albuquerque, NM, Samantha Montano of Grants, NM, Valerie Hernandez of Albuquerque, NM, Matthew Hernandez and Liz of Albuquerque, NM and Stephen Montano of Grants, NM; her great-granddaughter, Izzy; her sisters, Irene Fernandez of Ojo Sarco, NM and Helen Martinez of Chimayo, NM; her brothers, Willie Pacheco and Rafaelita of Penasco, NM, Robert Pacheco of Espanola, NM and Larry Pacheco and Margie of Fairview, NM; her sisters-in-law, Pilar Valverde and husband Deacon George Valverde of Albuquerque, NM and Gloria Fernandez, of Truchas, NM, and her close friend, Ruth Martinez of Penasco, NM. She is loved by many more friends and relatives.
She is preceded in death by her husband of almost 57 years, Porfirio "Porfy" Fernandez; her parents, J.O. Pacheco, Sr. and Evangelina Armijo Pacheco; her in-laws, Amadeo and Demecia Fernandez; her son-in-law, Gary B. Lopez; her uncle, Carmel Armijo; sisters, Sadie Pacheco, Rosarito Pacheco and Dorothy Pacheco; brother J.O. Pacheco, Jr.; sister-in-law, Cora Pacheco and brothers-in-law, Abel Fernandez and Amado Martinez.
A Visitation will be held Friday, March 11, 2016 at 7:30 a.m., followed by a Rosary at 8:00 a.m. and a Funeral Mass at 9:00 a.m. at St. Joseph on the Rio Grande, 5901 St. Joseph Drive NW, Albuquerque, NM 87120. Monsignor Lambert Luna will officiate. Interment will follow at Sunset Memorial Park, 924 Menaul Blvd. NE, Albuquerque, NM 87107.
