Luz G. Vigil, 92, a longtime resident of Chama, NM and recently of Albuquerque, NM passed away on Sunday, June 13, 2021. She was born on March 4, 1929, in Peralta, NM to Abenicio and Maria Gallegos. She attended elementary school from first through seventh grade in Estancia, NM. She attended eighth grade through high school in Los Lunas, NM, graduating from Los Lunas High School. In June of 1948, she met her husband, Edward E. Vigil, Jr., while he was working for the Santa Fe Railroad. They moved to Lamy, NM in 1948 and lived there until April of 1952 when they moved to Chama, NM to start their own business, Eddie's Chevron Service.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Eddie Jr.; her parents; her in-laws, Eduardo and Ignacita Vigil; her sister, Marta Menk (Emroy); her brothers, Arthur Gallegos and Abenicio Gallegos Jr.; and her son-in-law Marvin Sanchez. She is survived by her 10 children, Eddie III (Allison), Mary Agnes (Bob), Linda, Terri, Thomas (Lorraine), Larkin (Silvia), Michael (Darlene), Joan, Joann Sanchez, and Ernest (Sonia). She is also survived by her brother, Melvin Gallegos of Los Lunas, NM; sisters-in-law, Amalia Gallegos of Connecticut and Rose Radanovich of California; 19 grandchildren; 22 great grandchildren; 4 great-great grandchildren; as well as many nephews, nieces, cousins, and friends.
A visitation will be held, Thursday, July 1, 2021, from 12:00 p.m.- 3:00 p.m. at French Funerals - WYOMING, 7121 Wyoming Blvd NE, with Rosary being recited at 2:00pm.
Mass will be celebrated on Friday, July 2, 2021, 10:00 a.m. at Risen Savior Catholic Community, 7701 Wyoming Blvd NE, with interment at 2:15 p.m. at Santa Fe National Cemetery, 501 N. Guadalupe, 87501, where she will be laid to rest with her husband of 72 years.
