Luke Jeron Sims departed this earthly world on Thursday, January 19th, 2023, at the age of 16, to return to his Father in Heaven and older brother, Jesus Christ.
Luke was born at the Lovelace Women's Hospital in Albuquerque, New Mexico, on February 4th, 2006, and was the 8th and youngest child of Pamela and George Sims. As the youngest, Luke had a full family of brothers and sisters whose ages ranged from 22 years older and down. His sisters doted on him, and his brothers became his playmates and idols. Luke was a happy baby, and he excelled in everything he did starting with when he learned to crawl and walk at a very young age (much earlier than his siblings). Luke was nicknamed "The Flash'' by his siblings' friends because of how fast he ran the hallways and how he was always on his toes. Being a part of a large family, Luke was always involved in his siblings' lives and activities, whether it be attending their school, sports, or personal events. Luke loved road trips. He and his family traveled to California, Texas, Florida, Montana, Utah, South Dakota, Colorado, and visited many other places during those excursions.
Luke consistently excelled in his academics. He was a member of the National Junior Honor Society in middle school and the National Honor Society in high school. At the time of his passing, Luke had a 4.35 GPA and was ranked 11th in his class of 515.
Luke was full of life and energy, and he had a wide-array of interests. He played youth basketball and football throughout elementary and middle school where he made buckets and scored a touchdown. In high school, he played on the Volcano Vista freshman basketball team, and then became a member of their esports and robotics teams. Luke was a talented musician - he started playing percussion in middle school, picked up guitar in high school, and taught himself to play the trumpet and electric guitar. Outside of school, Luke was interested in rock climbing, MMA, skateboarding, and dirt bike riding. Like most kids his age, Luke was an avid gamer. He enjoyed playing Xbox with his friends and later moved onto PC gaming after building his own PC.
Anyone who knew Luke, knew that he was "particular" about his food preferences. He was not a big fan of cheese, unless of course, it was on nachos. Luke enjoyed Subway, Chick-Fil-A, and Wingstop. He also loved drinking chocolate milk, Shirley Temples, and Arizona Sweet Tea.
Luke was a loving, shy, intelligent, funny, and cherished soul. He will be extremely missed by everyone who had the pleasure of crossing paths with him. Luke is survived by his parents, Pamela, and George Sims; brothers, Weston Sims, Patrick Sims (Lili Sowlati), Devin Sims, and Troy Sims; sisters, Nicole Rivera (Richard Rivera), Michelle Sims (Derek Reinholtz), and Jillian Sims; nephews, Adam Rivera, and Brian Rivera; and many aunts, uncles, and cousins.
Luke's memorial and remembrance service will take place on Saturday, February 4th, 2023. The viewing of Luke's remembrance will begin at 9:15 a.m. followed by his Memorial Service at 10:30 a.m. at the Kachina Chapel of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 6000 Kachina St. NW, Albuquerque, NM 87120.
