Lucy A. Martinez

Lucy A. Martinez, age 81, a lifelong resident of Albuquerque, died on Thursday, August 17, 2017.

She is survived by her children,  Marian Tarin and husband, Robert, Marla Wagner and husband, David, John Martinez and wife, Courtney, and James Martinez and wife, Yvonne; thirteen grandchildren; two great-grandsons; sister, Jennie Corrall; nieces and nephews; close friend, Robert Laguna; and numerous other relatives and friends. Lucy was preceded in death by her parents, Gavino and Andreita Gallegos Avila; husband, Jose T. Martinez in 1990; grandson, Joshua Tarin; sisters, Dolores Salas and Anita Carroll; and brother, Tobias Avila.

She was born in 1935 in Madrid, NM and after graduation, attended Highlands University for two years. Lucy then went to work for the Federal Government, retiring in 1994 after 37 years. Lucy and Jose were married on September 24, 1966 in Bernalillo, NM.  She was a long time member of Our Lady of the Assumption Catholic Church, serving as President of the Legion of Mary for several years. Lucy's life centered around her Catholic faith. She was a self-sacrificing, generous, and very positive person. Lucy was a devoted wife, loving mother, doting grandmother and great-grandma and will be deeply missed by all who knew her.

A Rosary will be recited Friday, August 25, 2017, 10:30 a.m. at Our Lady of the Assumption Catholic Church, on the Corner of Lomas and Tennessee NE.  A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 11:00 a.m.  Cremation will follow and interment will take place at Santa Fe National Cemetery at a later date.  In lieu of flowers, Memorial contributions may be made to the Legion of Mary at Our Lady of the Assumption Catholic Church, 811 Guaymas Place NE, Albuquerque, NM 87108.
