Lucia Castillo (Manuz), age 84, passed away on March 2, 2020, in Gilbert, Arizona at Mercy Gilbert Hospital.  She was born on July 28, 1935 in Morenci, Arizona to Aurelio and Ysabel Manuz.

Lucy, as her friends and family liked to call her, graduated from High School in Roswell, New Mexico, and it was also there that she met her husband, Mariano Castillo.

Lucy was an avid animal welfare advocate as well as longtime donor to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital. In her spare time, you would most likely find her bowling with her championship bowling team or hitting the slots with her best girlfriends.

While serving as a military spouse, she and Mariano traveled the world, and continued to do so into retirement. Often taking trips with close friends throughout the country, ensuring they made time to stop at casinos along the way.  During this time, you were likely to see her wearing her fanny pack and strutting around with her closest friends and family, as well as her granddaughter Christina nipping at her heals.

More than anything, Lucy loved her children and grandchildren. She took great pride in her devotion to her family and her community.  After her children had grown up and moved out of the home, Lucy, took a job as a bus driver for physically and mentally disabled elementary school children, whom she thought the world of.

Lucy, was preceded in death by her husband, Mariano Joseph Castillo. Her sisters, Lupe Lucero, Carmen Kimbrell; brothers Roger Manuz and Manuelito Manuz.
