Lt. Col. William H. Carroll, Jr

Lt. Col. William H. Carroll, Jr., (USAF), Ret., age 83, a resident of Albuquerque since 1974, died Wednesday, May 11, 2016. He is survived by his beloved wife of 61 years, Lettie Carroll; children, N.M. State Police Officer Dean Carroll, Bill Carroll and wife, Marcy, and Shelly Andes and husband, Rick; grandchildren, Teresa Yvonne Carroll Moore and husband, Bob, Brian Alan Philipbar and wife, Aldis, Brad Montgomery Philipbar, Baer Tanner Philipbar, and Brent Hunter Philipbar and wife, Katie; great-grandchildren, Whitley and Gage Moore, Radley and Raegan Philpbar; his beloved dogs, Ozzie, Taz, and T.J.; and numerous other relatives and friends Will was preceded in death by his parents, William Sr. and Louise Carroll; and sisters, Shirley Domenichelli and Harriette Bowles. He was born in 1932 in San Francisco and graduated from Geyersville High School before attending and graduating from the University of California, Berkeley as well as the University of New Hampshire and Highlands University, where he obtained his MBA. Will married Lettie Mae Walker in January of 1955 and entered the United States Air Force in February 1958. He was a highly decorated pilot during the Vietnam Conflict. He retired in May 1982 and started a career at Sandia National Labs as a Nuclear and Electrical Engineer. Will retired from Sandia Labs in 2002 and enjoyed spending time with his children and grandchildren. He was a handball champion and continued to play as long as he could. In 1989, Will won the Sr. World Championship in Handball in Canada. He was a loving husband, father, and grandfather and will be deeply missed by all who knew him. Cremation has taken place and a memorial service will be held at FRENCH-Lomas on Saturday, May 21, 2016, 11:00 a.m. with Military Honors, followed by a reception. Private Interment will take place at Santa Fe National Cemetery at a later date.
