Louise G. Messina, age 90, a resident of Albuquerque for 42 years, died Sunday, April 2, 2017.
She is survived by her children, Joseph F. Messina, Mary Anne Messina, and Frank C. Messina; grandchild, Francesca Messina-Cortez; sister-in-law, Phyllis Marra; and numerous nieces and nephews, cousins, and friends. Louise was preceded in death by her husband, Frank W. Messina; sister, Christine Schanes; and brothers, William and Anthony Marra.
She was born in 1926 in Jersey City, NJ to William and Mary Marra. Louise graduated from Saint Aloysious High School and then attended Pratt Institute of Art and her class was the first to allow women to graduate during WWII. She had a career as a textile designer for thirteen years, traveling up and down the east coast representing several different companies. Louise married Frank Messina in 1960 and then devoted her life to raising her children. She was a devoted Catholic, which she considered her greatest gift. Louise was a long time member of The Shrine of St. Bernadette. She was very outgoing, generous and giving to family, extended family and friends. Louise was a loving mother, grandmother, and friend to many and will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
Friends may visit on Thursday, April 6, 2017, from 6:00 p.m. till a Rosary at 7:00 p.m. at FRENCH- Lomas. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place Friday, April 7, 2017, 9:00 a.m. at The Shrine of St. Bernadette, 11401 Indian School Road NE with interment to follow at Gate of Heaven Cemetery.
