Louisa Chavez passed away in the early morning of March 1st, 2025, surrounded by her loving family, she was 88 years old. Born in San Mateo, NM to Fabian and Petra Montano, Louisa grew up in Grants, where she attended school and laid the foundations for a life dedicated to her community. After graduating high school, she began her career serving the Grants and Albuquerque Public Schools, working tirelessly until her retirement in 1990.
Louisa is survived by her children: Cindy Arrossa (Pierre G. Arrossa), June Chavez (the late Carlos G. Chavez), Vincent Chavez (Evelyn Chavez), and Bruce Chavez.
She had many years of persons who took special care of her and the family would like to especially thank her daughter-in-law, Cecilia Chavez, and also Cece Cates, Carleen Tafoya and the special team at Morada especially Andrijana. Our mother was an avid reader throughout her life, and a die hard Lobo basketball fan. She passed on her love of books and history to her children and grandchildren.
She leaves behind a beautiful legacy of love through her 7 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
The family wishes to honor Louisa's memory through her pallbearers: Meagan Chavez, Danielle Anderson, Francisco Chavez, Carlos Chavez, Pierre Joseph Arrossa, Alix Chavez, and Owen Chavez.
Louisa will be remembered for her spirit of caregiving and kindness, and her quiet love she shared with all who knew her. She will be deeply missed but forever cherished in the hearts of those she touched.
A celebration of her life will be held at Holy Family Catholic Church, 562 Atrisco Dr. SW, Saturday, March 29, 2025 with visitation from 9:00 a.m.until 9:30 a.m. and a Rosary to be recited at 9:30 a.m.; Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m.; Interment will follow at San Jose de Armijo Cemetery, 2957 Arenal Rd SW.
