Louis (Louie) Joseph Wihl, United States Marine Corps: First Division, Fifth Regiment, WWII, age 90, was a resident of Albuquerque who retired from civil service at the Veterans Administration Hospital in Albuquerque. In retirement, Louie volunteered for the United States National Park and Forest Services for many years. Louie passed away on November 16, 2012. He was born on May 11, 1922, in Pinckneyville, Illinois, the youngest of eight children of his late parents, George and Louise Wihl. He was preceded by his brothers and sisters Eva, Charles, Ann, Sue, Helen, Francis and Denis. He is survived by his wife of nearly 57 years, Marietta Wihl; son, Kurt and his wife Annette Wihl; grandchildren, Patrick Wihl, Abigail and her husband Mark Winek, and Tobias Martinez; his beloved nephew, Denis Telgemeier: and the caregivers who lovingly helped him in the last four years of his life. Rosary will be recited Thursday, November 29, 2012, at 7:00 p.m., at Risen Savior Catholic Church, 7701 Wyoming Blvd. NE, and Mass of the Resurrection will be celebrated on Friday, November 30, 2012 at 10:00 a.m., also at Risen Savior Catholic Church. Interment will follow at the National Cemetery in Santa Fe, New Mexico. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you consider a donation to the Nature Conservancy's Plant a Billion Trees program, .
