Louis Edward Smith, Jr., SFC (Ret), passed from this life peacefully of natural causes in his home on January 3rd, 2017. He is reunited in Heaven with his wife, Maria Guadalupe Smith, who preceded him in death on August 23, 2012.

Louis is survived by his six beloved children; Louis Edward Smith III and wife Mona, Kathy Trujillo and husband Gerry, Maria Hockerson, Patrick Kevin Smith and wife Lynetta, Tim Smith and wife Amy, Michele Giacomo and husband Michael. He leaves behind 15 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren. He also is survived by his brother, Tom Smith and wife Carolyn of Pennsylvania.

Louis was born on January 21, 1931 in Lockhaven, PA. Louis grew up in Pennsylvania, joined the U.S. Army at the age of 20 and shortly thereafter, met and married his wife of 59 years, Guadalupe. Together they had 6 children, and thanks to the Army, were able to travel and see the world. After serving in the U.S. Army for 23 years, Louis retired as Sargent First Class and in 1975 and settled in Albuquerque. Louis went on to serve as a postal carrier for the United States Post Office for 15 years and was able to enjoy a second retirement. For the past 11 years Louis gave back to his fellow servicemen by volunteering at the Veterans Administration Hospital up until his death. In addition to volunteering at the VA Hospital, Louis enjoyed working with wood, making picnic benches and tables and spending time gardening. Louis was a happy soul with an infectious smile. Louis had an amazing memory and the stories he shared of his younger years and experiences in the military entertained everyone around him. Louis will be missed by many.
