Louis Alan Sanchez

July 13, 1939 — April 2, 2015

Louis Alan Sanchez, beloved husband and father, passed away suddenly in the early morning hours on Thursday, April 2, 2015. Lou is survived by his wife, Viqui, his daughter Samantha, his daughter and son-in-law, Ashleigh and Jeremy Munson and their two children, Calleigh and Jak. Lou also leaves behind sisters Janice Milligan, Barb Cunningham and brothers Raymond Sanchez and Paul Sanchez. Long retired from his work as an electronics technician at Sandia and Los Alamos National Labs, Lou spent his days caring for his grandchildren and teaching them, as he had his daughters before them, about the important things in life: "Go, Red Wings!"; toast with jelly, and playing outside. In addition to Detroit sports (particularly hockey and baseball), Lou enjoyed drag racing (he and his brother owned and raced a dragster for years), bowling, crossword puzzles, being at home and every minute of his retirement. A native of Detroit, Michigan, Lou relocated to New Mexico with his family while just a boy. After high school, he enlisted in the Air National Guard and served three years, during which he learned his trade in electronics before being honorably discharged. He met his wife Viqui in 1982 and they married the following year. He joked about having had to wait half his life to meet the right girl, but they both knew how lucky they were to have found one another. They celebrated their 31st wedding anniversary in November. She pulled him out of himself and he kept her grounded. From him, their daughters learned steadfast loyalty, unquestioning love and practical responsibility (and an irreverent sense of humor). From her, their daughters drew a love of reading, a creative bent to problem-solving and a nurturing spirit (and an appreciation of wine & card nights). Louis' passing leaves a bottomless well of sadness and loss but also a rich foundation of strengths and memories that, eventually, will allow the sweetness of his presence to overcome the pain of his absence.A memorial service will be held Friday April 10, 2015 at 3:00pm at FRENCH-Westside. FRENCH - Westside 9300 Golf Course Road NW (505) 897-0300
