LENCIONI, LOUIS WILLIAM Age 91, passed away on Thursday, March 6, 2014 at Sandia Spring Emeritus, Rio Rancho, New Mexico. Louis was born September 26, 1922, to Louis and Lettie Lencioni in Laurium, Michigan, located in the Keweenaw Peninsula, where his father worked in the copper mines. At the age of 17, he worked for the Civilian Conservation Corps foresting in the Upper Peninsula. When World War II began, he was sent to Alaska and later transferred to the European Theatre in France, where he was a point man for the infantry and later received a bronze star for his courageous service in the war. He was wounded by a German shell and had to spend nine months in military hospitals in Europe and in a veteran's facility in the United States. In 1946, Louis married Thelma Louise Phillips in Detroit, Michigan, and worked as a machinist for the X-L-O Corporation, which is now Textron, for 30 years before retiring to Albuquerque, New Mexico in 1974. His passion was golf. During his lifetime, he made three holes in one: August 18, 1959, at North Hills Country Club in Michigan, another on August 25, 1959, at North Hills, and a third in 1980 at Paradise Hills Country Club, in Albuquerque. The love of his life, Thelma preceded him in death on August 28, 2011, after 65 years of marriage. Louis is survived by a niece, Barbara (Michael) Sparks and their son, Brayton of Michigan; and cousins, Carol (Jerry) Toombs of Arizona, Shirley Jaggar of Washington, Leontine Kilberg and Genevieve Lanfranki of Michigan.
