Louis William Hanke

March 25, 1978 — December 9, 2017

It is with immense sadness that the family of Louis W. Hanke, age 39, announces that he died at home on December 9th after a yearlong battle with autoimmune liver disease and cancer.  He was greatly loved by so many.  Louis is survived by his wife, Teresa Tassotti Hanke; mother, Nora Selenka; his father, Edward Hanke and stepmother, Linda Hanke; stepfather, Peter Selenka; father-in-law, Dante Tassotti, sister, Elissa Hanke, sister, Rebecca Davidge and her husband Andrew, brother-in-law, Anthony Tassotti; nephew, Titus Federwisch; nieces, Lia Tassotti, Analise Davidge, and Zenia Davidge, and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.

He was born on March 25, 1978, in Point Pleasant, New Jersey. Louis spent most of his grade school years in Germany and spoke fluent German all of his life. He was an Eagle Scout, in the Order of the Arrow, Boy Scout transatlantic council, in Augsburg, Germany. Upon his return to the US in 1996, he attended the University of New Mexico obtaining two bachelor degrees in German and Radiologic Sciences.  Louis was later honorably discharged from the Army for medical reasons and was a member of DAV (Disabled American Veterans).

He met the love of his life, Teresa, while working as an X-Ray Tech for Teresa’s uncle while she was a Tech Assistant.  They married on September 17, 2011.  He began working as a CT Tech while they lived in Pittsburgh, Las Vegas and Reno. They lived in Albuquerque for the last year while Louis fought his heroic battle against disease.  Louis was a movie and music buff, a BMW fanatic, an avid fan of Game of Thrones (and Project Runway, truth be told), and a talented gamer. Pets and children were drawn to him because of his kind and loving nature. He will be most remembered for his quirky sense of humor!

A rosary will be held Monday, December 18, 2017 at 9:15 a.m. at St. Jude Thaddeus Catholic Church, 5712 Paradise Blvd. NW, Albuquerque, NM 87114, followed by a funeral mass at 10:00 a.m. A reception luncheon will be held at Jesse and Gina Constant’s home immediately following the funeral mass.

Rest in peace our beloved husband, son, brother, nephew, and uncle.
