Lorene "Lori" Michelle Peterson, age 42, passed away peacefully in her sleep at home on Wednesday, June 22, 2022. She was a very much loved and devoted wife, mother, daughter, daughter-in-law, sister, aunt, and friend. She was born in Albuquerque, NM on September 9, 1979, the youngest child of David and Brenda Werling. She graduated from Sandia High School in 1998, where she sang in Concert Choir, was a member of the Continentals, and made All State all four years. She earned her bachelor's degree in Education with a double major in Elementary and Special Education from UNM in 2003. Lori married the love of her life, Nathan Peterson, on June 20, 2003, and their amazing daughter, Amelia, was born on April 3, 2008. Lorene was passionate about elementary education, and she taught in APS, Rio Rancho Public Schools, and at Manzano Day School. Most recently she worked for Horizons Albuquerque first as a teacher, and then as the Marketing and Communications Coordinator.
Lorene was smart, beautiful, kind, generous, amazing, and wonderful. She loved her husband and her daughter with all her heart. She never put herself first, instead she gave to others whenever possible. She was always an animal lover, but she loved cats in particular, especially her current kitties Zelda and Link. She was passionate about music and singing her whole life, and she loved knitting and photography. Many people proudly wear the hats, scarfs, and sweaters she gave as gifts. She will be loved and missed by many.
