Lonnie Fitzgerald Lucero

March 16, 1968 — August 30, 2024

Our loving son, Lonnie Fitzgerald Lucero, passed on August 30, 2024, peacefully surrounded by his loving family. He is sitting at the right hand of our lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Lonnie was born on March 16, 1968 to Dana Dee Mossman-Lucero and Lonnie A. Lucero.

Lonnie was a special soul who always smiled and laughed, who loved everyone he met, who wanted to help people that were struggling and had disabilities. He truly loved all of his friends and staff at Very Special Arts, which closed during the Covid shutdown and never reopened. He worked on his art projects every day until his passing and leaves us with a collection of special pieces that he made and are treasured. Lonnie was a die-hard Kansas City Chiefs fan and was very lucky to have attended several of the games with his cousins, Mike Beck, Jill Fleming-Beck and Cindy Beck, who he loved. He also had a very special relationship with his cousins, Rick and Pam Hessman, their daughter, Jodi and her family have always been in our lives, as well. Our cousin, Dave Culver and Rene Sheppard have been a God send just like the rest of the family, who have been here for Lonnie. They have stood by us for many years and supported Lonnie when we were in need. He met and fell in love with Rita and John Martinez (paternal cousins), and he reconnected with Leonard Garduno (paternal cousin), when we lived in Grants. He met Leonard's wife, Eloise Garduno, several years ago and there are so many family members that have touched our life's and each of you should know that he passed with loving thoughts about you and your families.

He was preceded in death by his maternal and paternal grandparents, Joseph John and Doris Darline (Culver) Mossman and Benny and Carmen (Garduno) Lucero; his aunt, Louise (Geoffrion) Lucero; and his beloved cousins, Therese (Sandoval) Melton, Randy Hessman, Danny Beck and Tim Culver.

He is survived by his mother, Dana Mossman-Lucero, of the family home; his father, Lonnie A. Lucero (Kim); his brother and sister-in-law, Derek Wade and Jennifer Lynn Lucero; his nieces, Emma Marie Lucero, Nichole Jeffers (Samuel),and Ana Lucero; and his great-nephew, Isiah Vetteraino. Lonnie is also survived by his loving Paternal aunt, Jeanette Lucero (son Nathan); (Maternal) uncle, Larry Joe Mossman; and (Paternal), uncle, Leroy Lucero. His paternal cousins, Denise (JJ) Jackson, Leroy (Lee) Lucero (Angela & Sophia), and Christopher (Gabriel) Lucero also survive him. Additionally, he is survived by his great aunt and uncle, Pat Hessman and Duane Million, who had a major impact on Lonnie's life; and numerous cousins and family members on both sides of the family, who have supported him, loved him and made his life so loved and happier.

The family would like to thank all of you who have helped him and his family through this very trying time, who loved Lonnie without question and who supported him when he needed support. We are thankful for the impact you had on Lonnie and our family. The Klarus Home Health team including our home health nurse Angelique Garcia, the Presbyterian Palliative/Hospice Care teams (Abagail, Lindsey and Paul), our Priest at Our Lady of Fatima Church, our wonderful family friend Ruben Martinez, and his long-time therapists Bryn Narranjo, who have been with us during good and bad times. They will be remembered forever because of their kindness, willingness to help and for providing services, love, and friendship to Lonnie until his passing. Lonnie was also supported by a team of people from the Mi Via Waiver including Suzanne Purcell (Direct Therapy Services), Michelle Rutt and Brenda Herrera (Los Amigos). A very special thanks is sent to Jennifer Rodriguez for all the support she has given our family throughout his illness. We would also like to thank the Coram staff who worked with us to keep Lonnie fed and hydrated. Our doctors and their nurses/nutritionists who were with us for a very long time. The family would also like to thank French Funeral Services for the assistance they gave us during this time.

We grieve for our loving son, brother, brother-in-law, uncle and nephew; however, we know he has gone to a far better place.

God Bless each of you who have given your love, friendship and help to our beloved son.
