Lon Edward Bottcher

January 23, 1934 — February 9, 2018

Bottcher, Lon Edward

A bright light has gone out of our lives. Lon peacefully slipped away from us on February 9, 2018 due to complications from heart failure. Lon came to this world on January 23, 1934, grew up on a farm in Nebraska, attending Talmage High School.

After graduation, he joined the US Air Force and served as a flight engineer. When he completed his service commitment, he continued his education by attending graduate school at the University of Iowa. He graduated with a Master Degree in Education. He taught at colleges in Mitchell, South Dakota and Longmont, Colorado before moving to the island of Guam in 1970 as a Science teacher.

Lon fell in love with the island’s beauty, the ocean, weather and the warm hospitality of the people of Guam. He chose Guam as his home ever since.

Living 47 years on the island, Lon served as a teacher at John F. Kennedy High School and Guam Community College. He was the Deputy Director at Guam Teacher’s Center. He also served as a mentor for federally funded Guam Teacher’s Corps and was the President of the Guam Federation of Teachers for numerous years. He was a strong advocate for a better public education and worked tirelessly alongside Guam politicians in trying to achieve those goals.

Lon was always the life of the party. His energy, warm personality and good sense of humor enlivened everyone around him. He was a “people person”, quite the charmer. Lon touched many lives, making friends along the way and helping people whenever he could.

Outside of the education area, Lon opened a private driving school business in the early 80’s offering driving education to the community. He also owned a car rental business and a solar & steel business until he became ill in 2013.

While on Guam, Lon continued serving the military through the Guam Air National Guard and retired in March 1995 after an accumulation of 24 years.

Lon is survived by his loving wife of 40 years, Kim; son, Daniel, daughter, Carol and grandchildren, Lonnie, Jonathan and Hannah. He is also survived by a brother, many more family members, good friends and colleagues in Nebraska, California, Guam, France and Vietnam.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, February 17, 2018 at Chartered Oak Christian Church, Talmage, Nebraska followed the interment at Grant Evergreen Cemetery in Talmage Nebraska. The family would like to extend a heartfelt “Thank You”, “Si Yu’us Ma’ase” to ALL for the care, support and comfort during this sad and difficult time. The Bottcher Family.
