Lois Katherine Gurley Wells, long-time resident of Albuquerque, NM passed away peacefully on Saturday, January 9, 2016, at the age of 98.
Lois was born in Reed, OK in 1917. She was the youngest of eight children and loved her huge extended family. She married Edward James Wells in 1942 in Las Vegas, NV and they settled in New Mexico in 1955. Lois spent most of her life in New Mexico which she loved for its clear blue skies and majestic white clouds.
She attended TVI in 1960's and prepared income tax papers and did accounting in her home. She enjoyed many hobbies including: gardening, stamp collecting, crossword puzzles, reading, crocheting, quilting and making scrapbooks. She was also an avid family historian and did much to preserve her family history including writing her memoirs "The Life of a Child".
Lois was baptized into the Catholic faith on her 76th birthday, November 20, 1993. She was a member of St. Therese the Little Flower Parish.
Lois was preceded in death by her parents, Louisa and Andrew Gurley; all of her brothers and sisters; her husband, Edward Wells; and her son-in-law, Gerry McCormick. She is survived by her daughters, Tonia McCormick of Albuquerque, NM and Anita Andazola and husband James Andazola of Rio Rancho, NM; her grandchildren, Beth McCormick, Sue Simpson, James McCormick, Jimmy Andazola, Lonnie Andazola, Jon Andazola and families; her great grandsons, Sean and Ryan Simpson and families; her great-great grandchildren, Elias and Amelia Simpson; and many nieces and nephews.
Visitation will take place on Thursday, January 14, 2016 from 3:00 to 6:00 p.m. at FRENCH - University. Mass of the Resurrection will be on Friday, January 15, 2016 at 9:00 a.m. at St. Therese the Little Flower Church, 300 Mildred Ave NW. Interment will be at Santa Fe National Cemetery in a private service.
