"Absent from the Body Present with the Lord"

The multi-talented, intelligent and ever-giving Lois Jean Olsen Tulga was born in Chicago September 19, 1934, into the family of Otto and Bess Olsen. She has a brother, Randall Olsen of Williams Bay, Wisconsin and a sister, Elaine Hillier, now deceased.

Lois wedded Lou Tulga in Chicago on January 22, 1955, and this year celebrated 68 years of love-filled marriage together. Lois is the mother of three wonderful children, Brian (and her daughter-in-law, Marlene), Louise, and Renee (and her son-in-law, Greg)- Lois is survived by her four grandchildren, Eric, Laura, Luke, and Katie.

She was a committed lap-swimmer and readily took to the sport of downhill skiing. Ever curious Lois signed up for cruises and visited Norway to see her family roots and visited various historic sites in the Mediterranean world. Music flowed naturally from Lois and joy filled her life in all that she did. Over the years, Lois performed as a vocal soloist and was a member of church choirs wherever she had the opportunity. She sang in various choral groups such as the "Enchanters" and the New Mexico Symphony Chorus.

Lois was active over the years in service at various churches and until her passing was a long-standing member of the Church of the Good Shepherd. She taught many Sunday School classes, participated variously in church leadership, and especially enjoyed teaching young people. She was always available to assist in church leadership.

Lois' integrity was never for sale. Throughout her life by faith, she lived out her vital commitment to follow Jesus. Lois placed great priority in loving others and believed this to be the essence of a truly spiritual life. She sincerely believed that one only keeps what is given freely to others.

For over 40 years Lois was a member of Quota International raising scholarship money for qualified deaf and hard of hearing college students and for disadvantaged women and children. Always generous with her time and talent, she served as President of Quota's Albuquerque Chapter a number of times and was District Nine Governor for the New Mexico and Colorado chapters of Quota International. Her recognized leadership skills led to her being made the West Area Director for Quota International. Lois is fondly remembered as the take charge and vivacious "Master of Ceremonies" for the Quota of Albuquerque's "Bling Style Show" which was held annually to raise monies for Quota's scholarship program.

For many years Lois was the Office Manager for the New Mexico Eye Clinic in Albuquerque-- dedicating herself tirelessly in making sure every patient's health needs were given proper attention. After having experienced a fall with complications from a head-injury, Lois passed away peacefully on April 7, 2023, "Good Friday," surrounded by her loving family. She is so profoundly and dearly missed. The family is grateful for the many who provided support during this difficult time and for the tireless caregivers at both the Presbyterian and the University of New Mexico hospitals.

Lois' faith was profoundly simple: "God is Love and we can only love God back by loving each other."
