Lois A. Suddath (Clark) passed away on Monday, September 26, 2022, in Albuquerque, New Mexico at the age of 86. Lois was a resident at Palmilla Senior Living, and in the seven years that she lived there she made many friends and was very active in the community. Lois was a kind, compassionate, and generous person. She made close friends wherever she went and kept those friends throughout her life.
Lois was born in Quincy, Illinois on January 29, 1936, to Alfred and Eulelia Bentrop. She is survived by her sister, Nancy Lakey (Richard); daughters, Cate Clark, and Lynn Davis; granddaughter, Danielle Given; grandson, Nathan Davis; great-granddaughters, Joslyn, Kiera, and Liza Given; niece Christina Lakey Davidson; and nephew, Scott Lakey; stepsons, Robert Suddath Jr. (Elizabeth McGuire) and Patrick Suddath; step-granddaughter, Cassandra Suddath; and step-grandsons, Beniah, Aaron, Robert, and Samuel Suddath.
Lois married Robert L. Suddath in 1992 in Albuquerque, New Mexico, they then moved to Sun City, Arizona, where they lived until Robert passed away in 2006. Lois then returned to the Sandia Heights neighborhood of Albuquerque. Lois was a celebrated hospital volunteer dedicating more than 27 years and 10,000 hours volunteering in local hospitals. She volunteered for more than 6,000 hours at Boswell Hospital in Sun City and 4,000 hours at Presbyterian Hospital in Albuquerque. Lois cherished volunteering: she believed that there was nothing more important than giving back to her community and helping those in need.
Lois was a gifted calligrapher and artist. She taught calligraphy for 10 years and was President of the Calligraphy Society in Sun City. She made beautiful holiday and birthday cards for friends and family and was hired to design and create artwork that featured her calligraphy.
Lois was also a published poet. In 2001, her poem, "A Volunteer's Prayer" was published in "Chicken Soup for the Volunteers Soul." Lois worked in the banking industry for 30 years. She began as a teller and worked her way up to an officer in the marketing department of the largest bank in New Mexico.
Lois loved animals, especially cats. While living in Sandia Heights, she saved a kitten that she named Gracie. Gracie was Lois' friend and companion for many years.
Lois was a member of St. John's Methodist Church in Albuquerque and enjoyed singing in the choir. Along with her parents and her husband, she was also preceded in death by her infant son, John Chester Clark.
Lois will be greatly missed by everyone that knew her.
A Visitation will be held on Thursday, October 6, 2022, from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m., FRENCH - Westside. The Funeral Service will be held on Friday, October 7, 2022, at 10:00 a.m., FRENCH - Westside, followed by Burial at Sunset Memorial Park Cemetery, 924 Menaul Blvd NE, Albuquerque, New Mexico 87107. In lieu of flowers, donation may be made to the Animal Humane Society of New Mexico.
