Lois Blume Marbach

August 2, 1925 — November 14, 2015

Lois Blume Marbach peacefully passed away on November 14, 2015, in Albuquerque, NM. She was 90 years old and had lived in Albuquerque for the past two years. Graveside services will be held in Westlake, Louisiana.

Lois was born August 2, 1925, in Westlake, Louisiana, to Ida Merl Newell and John Pickney Blume, Sr. She was the fifth of seven children. She grew up in Westlake and attended Westlake High School, where she played basketball and graduated Valedictorian of her class in 1942.

After graduation, she moved to Houston, Texas, where she worked for Firestone during the war. Later, she moved to San Antonio, Texas, where she married and had four children. In 1965 the family moved to Roswell, New Mexico. Lois raised her four children in Roswell as a single mother. "Mom", as her children affectionately call her, was an extremely hard working and selfless lady who always put the needs of her children above her own. Even though she worked full time, she always made time to cook healthy meals, attend her son's sporting events, and sew beautiful dresses for her daughters.

Lois was a member of First United Methodist Church in Roswell, where she had many friends and enjoyed listening to the choir on Sunday mornings. Lois worked as a bookkeeper for both Anderson Oil Company and New Mexico Oil Company for over forty years. She was active in Desk & Derrick Club and often served as Treasurer for the organization. She had recently been named an Honorary Life-Time Member. One of the highlights of her membership was attending the National Convention in Alaska.

Lois enjoyed spending time with her siblings. She loved to go back to Louisiana for family reunions. She travelled across America on car trips with some of her siblings that went up both the east and west coasts and into Canada.

Lois was preceded in death by both her parents; brother, John Pickney Blume, Jr.; brother, Kenneth Blume; sister, Eileen Blume Dunn; and sister, Margie Blume Koonce. She is survived by her children, Kevin Marbach and his wife, Janey, of Albuquerque, NM, Susan Pool and her husband, Sonny, of Alto, NM, Diane Schmidt, and her husband, Bill, of Richmond, TX and David Marbach, and his wife, Shannon, of Richmond TX. She is also survived by three grandchildren, Kyle Schmidt and his wife, Christa, Michael Schmidt, and Bailee Marsh. Survivors also include her brother, Sidney Blume, of Spring, TX, and sister, Joy Blume Vines, of Monroe, Louisiana. She also leaves behind many nieces and nephews.

The family would like to thank the staff of Buena Vista Senior Care and Dr. Joy Lovette for the wonderful care that she has received over the last two years.

In Lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Desk & Derrick Scholarship Fund, PO Box 503, Roswell, NM 88202.
