Lois Jewell

February 20, 1923 — September 26, 2012

Age 89, passed away at Kaseman Presbyterian Hospice on September 26, 2012, following a brief illness. Lois was born February 20, 1923 in Butts County, Georgia to Donchy Buck Plymale and Roxie Lee Torbett. Attending school in the Atlanta area, she graduated high school where she focused on business skills including typing, shorthand and bookkeeping. Following graduation she worked for Sears Robuck Catalog Sales. Attending a USO dance in 1943 she was spotted by John L. Jewell, "She was the most beautiful redhead and I wasn't going to let her get away"; he often told anyone who would listen. They were married on July 31, 1943 in Marietta, GA. Following John's discharge from the Army they moved to Bristol, TN, where Lois began a new, very different life as a wife and a homemaker. Their son Jerry was born on May 10, 1945. In 1955, they made a trip west, looking for a healthier climate for their asthma and found Albuquerque. Returning to Tennessee they sold their home and moved to Albuquerque in 1956. Lois and her Johnnie began yet another phase of their 64 year marriage. On December 21, 1957, their daughter, Brenda Lee, was born. Three months later, Lois found employment with Metro Traffic Court (which later became NM State Traffic Violations), retiring after 30 years in 1988. Retirement put them on the road in their motor home or sports car, traveling to Branson, MO, Colorado, and back to their roots in Georgia and Tennessee. They loved Branson with it's music and shows. Lois was preceded in death by her beloved husband, John; daughter, Brenda; sisters, Ida Mae, Doris and Ruth; and brother, Bud.
