Lois E. Harvey

d. March 2, 2017

Lois E. (McCarty) Harvey, wife of Earl S. Harvey, passed away on March 2, 2017 at Montebello on Academy in Albuquerque. Born in what is now the mining town of Mogollon, NM in 1924, she was the daughter of Pearl and Dude McCarty, a well-known rancher in Reserve, NM.
The world shifted dramatically over her 93 years. From growing up in a home that did have a wood stove but no phone, she lived to see a Dick Tracy type world, where people walk around with their phones that have instant access to the world. Quite a shift from the granddaughter of Charlie McCarty, the Texas cowboy whose arrest by Elfego Baca is classic New Mexico lore!
After high school she attended business schools in Albuquerque and Abilene, TX, but was back working in Reserve when she and Earl started dating. After his enlistment in the Army Air Force, they decided to get married and because he was stationed at Holloman AFB, they were living in Alamogordo when the First atomic bomb was detonated at White Sands.
Earl's decision to become a minister dictated the direction of their married lives. After his 1949 graduation from college, now with two small daughters, they packed up their belongings and drove out to California from seminary. As the years went by the family grew to four daughters, and they served many churches. She became adept at setting up new households over the course of what she referred to as "their ministry". That ministry was spread throughout the Four Corner states, with the longest tenure at St. Andrew Presbyterian Church in Albuquerque, which they started.
In addition to her husband Earl, she is survived by her daughters, Sandra Baca, Caroline McFarland (Harry), Janice Hill (Dan), and Cynthia John's. She leaves grandchildren, Jeremy Hill, Valerie Gerke, and Sarah Dumas; and great-grandchildren, Adrihanna, Noah, and Jacob. Also surviving are her brother, Glen McCarty; her brother-in-law, Gary Harvey; and a multitude of nephews and nieces. She was preceded in death by her granddaughter, Jennifer Arterburn.
Memorial Services will be held on Saturday, March 18, 2017, 11:00 a.m., at St. Andrew Presbyterian Church, 5301 Ponderosa Ave NE. She was laid to rest at Sunset Memorial Park. Please visit our online guestbook for Lois at www.FrenchFunerals.com.
