Lisa M. (Stratton) Kunsman

August 17, 1957 — October 25, 2018

Lisa M. Kunsman

On October 25, Lisa M. Kunsman, 61, of Albuquerque ended her earthly life. She fought a brave fight against cancer for nearly a year but ultimately succumbed to pneumonia. She died in the tender embraces of her family. She was born in Okinawa on August 17, 1957 where her father, an Air Force lifer, was then stationed. Subsequently she lived in Maryland, Alaska, and Albuquerque where her father was transferred for his last assignment in 1968 before retiring here. Lisa graduated from Eldorado High School and the University of New Mexico School of Business. She was employed by the university for more than 30 years before retiring in 2014. She first helped create a monthly newsletter covering Energy, Environment, and Economic Development news throughout New Mexico which the state contracted the university to write and publish. When that responsibility was transferred to another state agency, she moved to the Financial Department of the UNM Cancer Center where she spent the rest of her career. While generally a quiet person, she displayed an inner fiber of resilient strength. Lisa was preceded in death by her parents, CMSgt Douglas Stratton and Jane Stratton, and two brothers, Jeremy Stratton and Devin Stratton. She is survived by her husband David Kunsman and son Lucas Kunsman, both of Albuquerque; brothers, Terry Stratton (Bonnie) of Sherman Station, Maine, Douglas Stratton of San Luis Obispo, California, and Bruce Stratton (Carolyn) of McKinney, Texas; She is also survived by sister-in-law Lynette Stratton of Anoka, Minnesota as well as nine nieces and nephews. Her husband and son extend their overwhelming gratitude to the medical and support staffs of both the UNM Cancer Center and the UNM Hospital ICU unit. Their devotion to their patients is exemplary through not only their competence but through their compassion as well. They are truly exceptional people. Lisa was a member of The Fellowship of St. Barnabas Anglican Church. In accordance with her wishes, the funeral service will be private. There will be, however, a "Celebration of Lisa's Life" gathering held on Monday, November 5, 2018, 11:00a.m. at FRENCH- University Chapel.  In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to an organization that directly helps those in need such as Casa Esperanza, Joy Junction, Albuquerque Rescue Mission, Salvation Army, or similar organizations.
