It is with heavy hearts and much love the family announces the passing of Lionel "Spec" Specter. Beloved husband, father, zeyda, brother and friend, Lionel passed away gently on November 30, 2024, at the age of 92 in Albuquerque NM.
Born in Chicago in 1932, Spec moved to Albuquerque in 1937 graduating from Albuquerque High in 1949. In 1951 Spec joined the Air Force where he proudly served in Korea. Following Spec's service, he attended the University of Miami where he graduated with a degree of Business Administration in 1957.
Throughout his life, Lionel continued to be a dedicated and proud veteran. After his service, Lionel returned to Albuquerque where he joined his father David Specter at Electrical Products of New Mexico, Zeon Signs. Helping grow one of the largest sign businesses in the Southwest, Lionel ultimately became President where he was instrumental in lighting up Central Avenue, where many of the signs that were built are still shining brightly today.
In addition to his career at Electrical Products, Lionel was a member and a past President of the Executive Association of Greater Albuquerque (EAGA). He also served as President of many local golf associations.
Spec's passion for golf was well-known, especially at Four Hills (Canyon Club). His love for the game was only rivaled by his enthusiasm for gin rummy, scuba diving around the world and traveling with his beloved wife, Bobbie, particularly to Aruba and Mexico.
Lionel is preceded in death by his parents David and Kate Specter and his son Danny. He is survived by his loving wife Bobbie, his children Debbie (Steve) Tafoya, Cori (Don) Friedman, Gary (Tracy) Specter, his grandchildren Dana (Zach) Shulman, Rachael Friedman, Emily Friedman and Sage Specter, his great-grandchildren Danny and Zoe Shulman, and his sister Judy Greenfeld.
The family extends great appreciation to Roadrunner Hospice and Roadrunner Home Health Care for their extraordinary love and care.
A graveside service will be held Wednesday December 4th at 2 PM at Fairview Memorial Park.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Danny Specter Memorial Camp Scholarship fund at Congregation B'nai Israel.
