During his tour in the Korean War, Linwood was struck by mortar shrapnel temporarily relieving him from his duties and awarding him with a Purple Heart. He was released back into battle shortly after recovery. After 21 faithful years of service in the military, highly decorated at the rank of Sergeant Major U.S. Army Linwood made the difficult decision to retire and started his next career in Civil Service and moved to Albuquerque, New Mexico.
