Linda A. Sullivan, 66 of Bernalillo, NM passed away peacefully and was greeted by the Blessed Lord on Sunday, October 4, 2015 at home with her beloved family and friends.
Born in Newport, RI on May 25, 1949, she was the daughter of Marian G. (McGowan) Sullivan and the late John F. Sullivan Sr.
She was the beloved wife of the late John Haaverson. She leaves her son, Sean Haaverson of Bernalillo, NM; daughter, Elizabeth Ortiz; son-in-law, Nick Ortiz of Rio Rancho, NM; and her beloved grandson, Zane Ortiz. Her beloved son, Jason Haaverson predeceased her.
She was the sister of the late Charles Sullivan and his wife, Kathleen Sullivan, Ann Shoppel of Middletown, R.I. and John F. Sullivan Jr. and his wife, Joyce Lincourt Sullivan of Portsmouth, RI; and several cousins, nieces and nephews.
Besides being a devoted mother and grandmother, she loved traveling, the arts, the outdoors, being with family and friends, enjoyed gourmet meals, and took pleasure when visiting family at home.
She has been an accomplished registered nurse at UNM Hospital for 36 years. She received her nursing degree from the Newport Hospital School of Nursing, Newport, RI. Linda found her calling working as a critical care nurse in intensive care. She often stated how happy she was waking up each day able to go out and do something she really loved. She was a mentor to new nurses, new doctors, and other health professionals.
For her outstanding nursing care she was awarded the Preceptor of the Year Award from the Association of Critical Care Nurses and she also received the Courageous Care Award from the Association of Critical Care Nurses.
People she supervised and mentored stated Linda would always say to them, "Did you think about doing it this way? With a kind gentle hand." and they loved her for professionalism.
A visitation will be held on Wednesday, October 7, 2015 at 5:00 p.m. followed by the Rosary at 6:00 p.m., at FRENCH - University. Mass will be celebrated on Thursday, October 8, 2015, 10:00 a.m., at Our Lady of Sorrows Church, 301 S Camino Del Pueblo, in Bernalillo.
