On Friday, December 31, 2021, Linda (Lyn) Lee Miller née Hess (73) of Albuquerque, NM, left us to deal with the mess of another year of political polarization, anti-science rhetoric, and an extended worldwide pandemic without her.
Born on Tuesday, November 16, 1948, in Denver, CO to the late Ray and Virginia Hess (Robinson). Linda grew up in Albuquerque and would live the majority of her life in the Land of Enchantment, loving its green chile, culture, and sunsets in equal measure. A considerable proponent of science and life-long learning, she received a BA in Geology from UNM in 1971, and Nursing degree (with honors) from San Juan College in 1989. She had a love for museums and libraries, and volunteered in many over her lifetime. Linda was an unabashed liberal who cared deeply about people, animals (mostly cats!), and the environment. She was a genealogy nut, a book lover, and an ardent fan of the best team in the NHL, the Colorado Avalanche. Her favorite things though were traveling, spending time with her family and friends, and being a mom and Oma. We will miss her every day.
Linda is survived by her daughters, Shannon Miller (Ruidoso, NM) and Heather Roberts (Chandler, AZ); son-in-law, Dylan Roberts; her beloved granddaughter, Mikayla Roberts; her brother, Jim Hess and sister-in-law, Nancie Hess (Cleveland, OH); nieces Barb Hess Payne, Kristin Hess Gronowski, and Jessica Hauser-Hess; nephews Tim Hess, Kevin Payne, and Jim Gronowski; and many, many dear friends. Shannon and Heather would like to thank Geri and Gary Collins, who did so much for Mom during the pandemic. Their kindness and generosity are deeply appreciated.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in memory of Linda Miller at Denver Museum of Nature and Science, 2001 Colorado Blvd, Denver, CO 80205 or by calling (303) 370-6000. Lyn loved to explore and to play with her granddaughter there, and she regularly attended DMNS webinars, particularly over the last two years. She would also encourage each and every one of us to get vaccinated and boosted, wear masks, and keep each other safe.
