Lesta Madeline Moffett (nee Davidson) passed away at age 82 on Tuesday, July 11, 2023, at her daughter’s home in Alamogordo, New Mexico. Lesta is survived by her three children Bret Moffett, Pamela Renteria, and Marc Moffett and seven grandchildren. She was preceded in death by Bennie Lee Moffett, her husband of 59 years.
Lesta was born on Sunday, August 25, 1940, in Albuquerque, New Mexico. She was the oldest of four children born to Lester Garland Davidson and Mary June Davidson. Her three surviving younger siblings are Leslie “Essie” Gabaldon, Lester “Sonny” Davidson, Jr., and Elaine Hurd.
Lesta spent most of her life in New Mexico where she attended Albuquerque High School and the University of New Mexico (UNM). At UNM she earned a Bachelor of Science in Education. She worked variously as a preschool and elementary school teacher, a bookkeeper, and a historian – all while raising her three children. She loved history and completed her career in that field with the National Park Service, a job she held in both the Rocky Mountain and Southwest Regional Offices. Besides history, she had a love for astrology and trained herself in reading and interpreting horoscopes, a job she delighted in doing for her friends and family.
More than anything else, Lesta will be remembered for the unconditional love and support she gave her family throughout her life.
