Dr. Leroy Clarence McLaren, Jr., Ph.D, 91, a resident of Albuquerque since 1964, died November 12, 2015 at home after a long illness. Lee was a WW2 veteran and distinguished professor of microbiology and virology. Dr. McLaren was the first chairman of the Dept. of Microbiology at the newly established UNM School of Medicine in 1964.
Following retirement Lee became active with the NM Civil Air Patrol and United Flying Octogenarians.
Leroy was preceded in death by his first wife Dorothy and is survived by wife Karen; three children; and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
All those who knew Lee are invited to a memorial celebration of Lee's life at French Mortuary, 1111 University Blvd., NE, Albuquerque, NM, January 18, 2016 at 2:00 PM. A reception will be held at the family home following the ceremony.
